The GDL Cookbook has been used as the principal workbook in GDL courses, and is tried and tested. The new 2.10 edition is closer to my courses than the previous edition. For all but the most specialised purposes, the GDL Cookbook is a complete replacement for the GDL Manual - there is hardly anything in the manual that it doesn’t cover.

The GDL Cookbook does not just teach GDL, any more than a food cookbook lists ingredients. The GDL Cookbook teaches the principles of Structured

Programming, the whole philosophy of smart parametric object making, with an emphasis on stretchiness, user friendliness and good rendering appearance. 2D is well covered too, and the ArchiCAD Tips and Tricks are an essential thread running through the whole book. It is also important to see your GDL work as an investment - to make objects that will be useful again and again and that you can come back to and edit, not a piece of spaghetti that will work only once, but not be usable again. The GDL Cookbook shows you how. There are many things explained in the GDL Cookbook which are quite unique; the GDL manual leaves significant numbers of things unexplained; only the Cookbook completes the GDL picture. Some of the Maths tips (eg in circle and parabola geometry) have been created by the author from first principle calculation and do not appear in any other publication. I have a file of comments on the GDL Cookbook which I can send you if interested.

The GDL Cookbook comes with a CD containing the entire Cookbook in pdf and the scripts of all the exercises in the Cookbook. The pdf version is indexed and thumbnailed, and richly embedded with hot buttons so you have effortless movement round the book, and searching for keywords. It is the only existing book on ArchiCAD that hasnt been published by Graphisoft.
